I have recently had the privilege or working with a very old engraved copper plate depicting the image of Thomas More by Philip Audinet after Holbein.
The image was the frontispiece for the book Memoirs of Sir Thomas More by Arthur Cayley, published by Cadell and Davis in 1808. I was commissioned by Amanda Stoner who as an ardent collector, found the plate in one of her vintage shopping searches.
The plate is to be included in her forthcoming exhibition in 2025 of ‘all things thrift’ at the Cooper Gallery, Barnsley and she wanted to have a printed image to display alongside the plate.
I managed to get the plate to work even with the damage it had sustained which is understandable considering it’s age plus also the fineness of the etched line left due to wear and tear.
Printed onto Fabriano Rosapina with dense black oil based ink.
